Telecoms sales veteran joins British Fibre Networks
British Fibre Networks has announced the appointment of John Hyslop to head up its growing sales team, taking on the role of Country Sales Manager in August 2018. With over twenty years’ experience in the telecoms industry, John will lead the organisation in its bid to connect over 35% of new homes to pure fibre by 2020.
Launched in January 2018, British Fibre Networks was founded by entrepreneur Elfed Thomas to offer a genuine pure fibre alternative to housebuilders and homeowners, in the midst of the growing controversy surrounding misleading “fibre” claims in the market. It aims to boost the UK’s broadband speed ranking from its current position, trailing in 35th place globally.
John has a proven sales record in the telecoms sector, having worked for several market leading organisations, such as BT, CGI and i3 Group. In his position as Sales Director at i3 Group, he was part of the team that delivered the infrastructure to make Bournemouth the UK’s first FibreCity.
He also brings extensive experience of rapidly growing start-ups and resurgent companies, having led the sales divisions at Tiscali, Zetnet and British Power International. As sales director for start-up Tiscali, John was able to deliver double digit profitability each month, growing managed IP service revenues in the UK from £30,000 per month to over £120,000 per month in the first half year alone.
John has joined British Fibre Networks from Vodafone, where he was responsible for selling digital solutions for large enterprise customers in the North West of England.
British Fibre Networks founder Elfed Thomas said: “With over twenty years’ experience working in sales, John will be a great asset to the organisation, delivering real value to the business and its customers. I am very excited to see what John can do for the company in helping to support the development of high-quality, fibre network broadband in Britain.”
British Fibre Networks works alongside housebuilders at the digging stage, to lay fibre cables to each property. Following securement of the plot the homeowners will have a choice of broadband providers from British Networks’ ISP partners, all of which are in the national top 20 based on reputation. This means that for the first time, builders partnering with British Fibre Networks will be able to ensure that their customers have real choice and that the home is connected before the occupier moves in.
Regarding his new appointment, John said: “There is huge potential for fibre network broadband, not only in providing high-quality services for home owners, but also in increasing house value and making future sales easier for housebuilders. It’s exciting to be part of such a forward-thinking and ambitious organisation – British Fibre Networks is already delivering on initiatives that the Government is still deliberating over with regards to full fibre broadband provision for new homes.”
British Fibre Networks has already begun installing pure fibre to a new build development in North Wales, and is set to begin works soon on developments in the North West of England. John will be looking to build on this and grow the company’s network further across the UK.
